The challenge
FinanceFlow operated a monolithic Java application that processed over €500M in daily transactions. The system was reaching its limits: deployments took 8 hours, scaling was manual, and any outage directly impacted thousands of banking customers. They needed to modernize without any service interruption.
Our solution
We designed a phased migration strategy using the Strangler Fig pattern, gradually replacing monolith components with microservices while maintaining full backward compatibility. Each service was containerized with Docker, orchestrated via Kubernetes on AWS EKS, and deployed through automated CI/CD pipelines. We implemented event-driven communication with Apache Kafka and introduced comprehensive monitoring with Grafana and Prometheus.
The results
The migration was completed in 9 months with zero downtime. Deployment frequency increased from monthly to multiple times per day. Infrastructure costs dropped by 40%, and P95 response times improved from 1.2s to under 200ms. The engineering team's velocity doubled within the first quarter post-migration.
